Since it is shared hosting, and the primary domain is irrelevant, I couldn’t use the Add-on domain option. Also the re-direction is not acceptable – the client wanted www.mydomain1.com and www.mydomain2.com to appear as different websites with the same content.

The solution I followed was this:

$hostname = $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'];
$hostname = str_replace('www.', '', $hostname);
if ($hostname == 'mydomain1.com') {
define('WP_SITEURL', 'http://mydomain1.com');
define('WP_HOME', 'http://mydomain1.com');
}

This code is placed in wp-config.php (BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE TRYING THIS SOLUTION!!!). This code can be used with multiple domains – just use the if…else method in php.

My second problem was that the theme used a script which was reading images from the folder and it was  recognised as an external domain from the original install (mind=blown). The solution was to give absolute urls.

I changed this (not accurate):

This was the trick!

Their marketing should aim at the new programmers, which means that Adobe should be patient. Why not give the opportunity to build an Office – OpenOffice alternative with Flex? Why not an DirectX or OpenGL graphics engine?

Flash for web is dead, even though we have not experience the full potential due to Adobe  insisting on keeping Flash an annoying but mandatory tool. Open your market, broaden the Flex capabilities (though it is difficult to release another SDK or release of Flash Builder in such short notice) and give Flash developers  a pure programming tool not some nice effects.

When the project was released to the public, I hooked a Google Analytics code, to keep track of any random visitors. A couple of visitors were using IE 6.0, which has the most problems considering compatability. It seems that IE cannot repair broken tags or unable to understand some css.

A safe way to make sure that the page is viewed properly is to be HTML valid, by the rules of w3c standards. Some benefits of having an HTML valid website:

1. The layers are displayed properly in all browsers Scrap that – IE 6.0 has many CSS incompatabilities – even if you are 100% CSS valid.
2. The compiling time is decreased – therefore making the site load a bit faster
3. It’s shows that the site is done professionally

The tactic that is more effective is to try to fix one error at a time. A missing tag is probable to fix any errors following. e.g. if you ommit the </head> tag,  the errors that follow it considering tags are dissapeared.

Also: Fill the alt tag in your images. It also counts as an error.

Plus: Give your scripts the “type”. Some of the scripts that are distributed freely like  Twitter, tend not to include the “type=”text/javascript” atrribute.

This is a small apology for not posting for almost a month now. I promise you that starting from April, I am going to update this blog for at least 2 times/month.  There are stuff happening that consume the best part of my day ( like Spartacus: Blood and Sand :p )

I had a little vacation, to relax from the February madness, and when I returned, my work had been pilled up! Still trying to finish some things left incomplete. Plus, trying to educate myself with some jQuery and WordPress, and at the same time working on 2 jobs.

Anyway, in April there should be 1 post about Flex and one conserning my hobbies. My portfolio should be ready before May.
